Diterpenoids from Salvia species

The roots of six species of Salvia (S. argentea, S. aerea, S. cavaleriei, S. constanea, S. trijuga and S. yunnanensis) have been examined for the presence of diterpenoids. Diterpenoids were found in all except S. cavaleirei. Those extracted from S. aerea, S. constanea, S. trijuga and S. yuannanenis...

Tartalmi kivonat:The roots of six species of Salvia (S. argentea, S. aerea, S. cavaleriei, S. constanea, S. trijuga and S. yunnanensis) have been examined for the presence of diterpenoids. Diterpenoids were found in all except S. cavaleirei. Those extracted from S. aerea, S. constanea, S. trijuga and S. yuannanenis were very similar; tanshinone 1 and tanshinone 2A were isolated from all four, whereas cryptotanshinone and dihydrotanshinone were not detected in the extracts of S. yunnanensis and S. trijuga, respectively. Przewaquinones A and B were only isolated from S. constanea. The diterpenoids extracted from S. argentea differed completely from those found in the other species investigated; the compounds isolated were ferruginol, aethiopinone, 1-keto-aethiopinone, salvipisone and 2,3-dehydrosalvipisone.
