Tartalmi kivonat:The Establishment of the Reformed Congregation in Csany (Csanytelek) in 1753 Prior to the issuance of the Patent of Toleration, it was possible to establish new Protestant church in the Kingdom of Hungary, but the state strove to suppress and restrict the Protestants. In the 18th century, several Protestant villages were established in Tolna County, whilst in other parts of the country Protestants were persecuted. New Protestant churches could only be formed if they enjoyed the support of the monarch or the patron, at least. Gardener villages, on the other hand, were in a special position, since their inhabitants were not granted long-term residence permits and the village could be demolished in 5-10 years. For this reason, patrons did not care for the churches of gardener villages. Owing to a non-organized settlement, the gardener village of Csanytelek was founded in Csongrád County in the mid-18th century. Among the gardeners, some Protestants settled in the village too and soon began to build their own church. As they had no permit from the monarch but were all noblemen, they believed their privileges entitled them to exercise their religion freely. They were wrong – the state intervened and terminated the church, but the Protestants continued to stay in the village for ten more years after their church was dispersed in 1753.
