New Library Paradigms of Scientific Information Supply This study considers changes and challenges that libraries have experienced in the past few decades, such as the emergence of the internet and of mass digitization, with special attention to the fundamental changes these have caused in academic librarianship. This process of change is far from being complete, in fact, in some areas they are intensifying, resulting in a paradigm shift in the discipline. Together, these changes have a profound impact in teaching and research, after all the supply of scholarly information, and the services needed for teaching and research, are directly affected by these changes. This study surveys the causes and challenges, as well as the approaches being considered cope with the resulting challenges of this new environment. |
