Tartalmi kivonat: | In the first part of our study, we seek to answer the following question: what did John of Marót do to deserve King Sigismund’s of Luxemburg (1387–1437) promise of the domain of Gyula? We review the events of the greatest rebellion, during which Ladislaus of Naples tried to obtain the crown of Hungary, and we review the role of John of Marót by the suppression of this rebellion. In the second part of the study, we try to review the dates relating to the development of the domain. At the turn of the 1350s and 1360s the common governance of the County Békés and of the County Zaránd secured excellent opportunities to Gyula – a settlement on the border of these two counties – to become the central locality of the domain. Finally, we review what kind of role John of Marót did play in the development of Gyula. The construction of the castle and its development to the residence of the landlord, the foundation of the Franciscan Convent contribute substantially to the development of the urban image; the presence of the seal of the town refers to a well-developed local administration. |
