| Tartalmi kivonat: | The aim of this thesis is to present the main differences between Innocence and Experience in William Blake's two series of songs. The contrast will be examined through certain important aspects. After introducing the main images and symbols, Nature and Spiritual World will be contrasted. Blake considered Nature as a place of an inferior existence, an image of the eternal world '. Children of Innocence are still connected with the spiritual state while those of Experience learn that they are bound to matter which causes suffering for mankind. Consequently, the Creator of the innocent world is the superior and true God, it is Jesus, the Divine Humanity; and the Creator of the hostile "experienced" world is the inferior angry God of the Old Testament. This cruel God is only the creature of the mind without imagination. Divine Innocence possesses the real virtues in contrast with the state of Experience in which human life is restricted by a cold and perverted morality based on rules. These two states of existence can be regarded as the dominance of the pure soul and its infinite senses; and the dominance of the material body that rendered the senses finite. |
