Tartalmi kivonat:The 19`" century was a contradictory period since it included prosperity and, at the same time, oppression as well. The age brought rise for many people, but it also meant humiliation and discrimination for a certain layer of the society. In my thesis I would like to examine the situation of Victorian women, particularly focusing on the status of female poetesses. I try to prove that the reason of women's plight in the 19`" century was the ignorance of society, since men did not accept the fact that living in the past does not bring development. With the help of Barrett Browning's Aurora Leigh and several books related to this topic, I would like to demonstrate that a leap forward is only possible in the present.
