Tartalmi kivonat:In my thesis I will write about Boston, the history of the city, and give a different prospective on both the beauty and the hard work of this monumental undertaking called "Big Dig". My hypothesis is that urbanization has accelerated to an incredible pace, therefore each big city has to prepare itself for the future somehow. The traffic chaos is a very serious problem not only in the big American cities but in smaller European cities, even in Budapest. One of the options is Boston's Big Dig, which can be a good pattern for cities facing similar problems. In the first part of this paper I will mention the historical background of the birth of a modern city. At the beginning of the urbanization sprawl of a city, it essentially was unplanned. Nowadays we can see many different types of projects, which prepare cities for the future. In the second part, the "Big Dig" is discussed. It is the largest, most complex and technologically challenging highway project in American history - in order to solve the traffic problem of Boston. It offers a learning experience for those who will deal with other large projects in the future.
