| Tartalmi kivonat: | This thesis examines the importance of teaching and learning a foreign language and its culture together. The key issue of this work is to pryVe that culture and language have to go hand in hand to complement each other in order to result in 'communicative competence'. Firstly, different definitions of culture will be introduced then I will analyse the connections between culture and language. The main part, containing three chapters, focuses on the teaching and learning of the foreign language and culture with its possible problems and challenges. I intend to show that developing students' cultural awareness is an essential part of English language teaching. Finally, I offer a collection of activities highlighting six areas to improve students' knowledge about their own culture and the target culture at the same time. |
