Tartalmi kivonat: | The "Roaring Twenties" were an interesting and significant period in the history of the United States. It was the time of prosperity and optimism. Economic and political changes influenced the society, and created a new middle class where new "roles" were given to the men and women : they were the "modern". The flapper was a "rebellious" young woman who kept pace with this "fast" decade, with the turbulence that the older generation had never experienced before. This thesis examines how the urban woman, the flapper personified the new ideas of modernism in her appearance, clothing, activities and behaviour. |
