Tartalmi kivonat:This paper will focus on the various female characters in Bram Stoker’s Dracula and J. Sheridan Le Fanu’s “Carmilla”. The paper examines the Victorian era, the women’s role during that time and in the literature. The female characters are divided into three main sections that show in detail the complexity of the female characters. The complexity of Lucy, Carmilla and Mina will be examined in detail. It will also show their relation to the Gothic genre. This paper will argues that Mina is the most complex and diverse character in the two stories.
