Tartalmi kivonat: | The first Jews arrived in Csanád county from the region of Pest in the middle of the 18th century. They settled in Földeák in 1743 on the dominium of landowner (dominus terrestis) György Návay. The number of accepted Jewish families increased significantly in a few years. However, the Jewish Communitas was not established in Földeák, but in Mako, the center of the county, in 1746/1747. They were protected and settled by Miklós Stanislavich in the town of Makó. Their first institution was the Chevra Kadisa. The statutes of the Chevra were drawn up in 1747 by Rabbi Eliezer Lipmann of Temesvár. We do not know the date of establishment of communitas judaeorum organizations, since the letter of protection issued by Bishop Stanislavich has been lost. The Jewish Communitas was founded shortly after the establishment of the chevra, probably between 1747 and 1753, and was under the jurisdiction of the bishop-landlord. From time to time, the bishops regulated the rights and duties of the Jews of Makó, as well as the amount of the tax to be paid, in contracts. The first Jewish Communitas in the Great Plain was Makó, which became one of the most important Jewish centers in the region by the end of the late ‚feudal’ period. |
