Tartalmi kivonat: | The modern concept of nationhood and symbolic politics significantly influenced various Jewish press discourses. This influence was particularly evident in the Jewish denominational press's responses to the Jewish laws. These writings aimed to illustrate the Jews' spatial rootedness within national history. Apologetic responses to antisemitic accusations centered around the historical narrative of the "millennial heritage." While the depth of this historical representation varied, it consistently focused on key points of the national historical perspective and held symbolic significance. During World War I, the context of the Jewish hero cult shifted. The issue was no longer whether Jewish soldiers were part of the nation, but rather an accusation emerged, claiming they opposed the nation, based on the assumption that they stood outside of it. Consequently, historical integration with the nation could no longer serve as an effective tool for apologetic argumentation; it was only suitable for the community’s self-definition. |
