Tartalmi kivonat: | Nowadays, the pursuit of sustainability has become a central goal, and the guidelines contained in the Green Deal recently created by the European Union reflect this determination. The comprehensive programme package also affects the agricultural sector, especially considering that large-scale livestock farming contributes greatly to environmental problems. The solution appears to be the prioritization of certain meat substitutes, which also has the legal background within the framework of the novel food regulation. The objective of the research was to map the meat substitute foods currently on the market based on legal aspects, relying on the available literature, and on the other hand, to review their impact on the environment. In the thesis, following an overview of the general EU legal sources governing food and food safety in general, the special regulations for novel foods and the related licensing procedure are explained. Two meat substitutes are examined more closely, the plant-based and the insect foods, which can also be distinguished in terms of their market and consumer target group. Currently these popular meat substitutes are said to be the future due to the fact that (claimed by the manufacturers) they have a more favourable effects on the environment compared to meat – I examine whether this statement is true or just greenwashing marketing strategy. The regulations for the sector (especially with regard to insects) neglect certain special issues, consequently in my opinion, as the market expands, it will be necessary to review and further develop the existing legal framework. |
