Tartalmi kivonat:Vihovsky’s Polish orientation was a possible “escape route” after as a hetman he was forced to face Moscow’s increasingly obvious attempts at integration. Had the Treaty o f Hadiach o f 1658 been put into practice, re-joining the Poiish-Lithuanian state would undoubtedly have been a step forward for Ukraine compared to the March Articles o f 1654. Vyhovsky’s biggest mistake was that he ignored the anti-Polish attitude o f the vast majority o f Ukrainian society, and did not seek to create a broad mass base for his Polishoriented policy, but forced his will on Ukraine as if he had been a sovereign and absolute ruler.
