Tartalmi kivonat:The Great War, also considered the great “seminal catastrophe” of the 20th century resulted in a number of economic and social problems. As a result of the large number of losses, the societies were almost filled with a sense of cultural hopelessness. As a consequence of the above, the “lost generation” had turned against the social and moral values of its parents. This process was only reinforced by the fact, that the European societies kept its sons in blood and iron for four years, and as a consequence, almost every waring party had lost a full generation of young men. In our presentation, we examine the impact of the war losses at the local level on the example of Törökbecse. We examine the number of victims the settlement had in the war, and also examine the demographic impact of the losses on the settlement. In our work, we examine the number of soldiers Törökbecse provided for war purposes and try to determine in which units and on which fronts they fought, when did they suffer the greatest losses, which generation had the most victims.
