Tartalmi kivonat:Prisons are hotspots for infectious diseases such as coronavirus because of the higher prevalence of infections, the higher levels of risk factors for infection, the close contact in overcrowded, poorly ventilated facilities and the poor access to healthcare services. Prisoners are extremely vulnerable population that suffers from poor health and engages in risky health behaviours, leading to communicable diseases and mental health conditions. In response to the covid-19 crisis, prisons around the world have implemented emergency legislative and other measures to help prevent disease outbreaks, including the limitations on contact with the outside world, the limitations on educational, religious, sports, and recreational activities and also the suspension of work in workshops, the limitations on movements within detention facilities, the increasing use of house arrest, the postponement of the sentence of imprisonment, the temporary release certain categories of prisoners. The aim of the present study to show the challenges of covid-19 in correctional settings and also the responses of European prisons.
