Tartalmi kivonat: | This study focuses on the possible definitions of populism. After reviewing various interpretations of the literature that are also reflecting on the relationship between populism and democracy. However, this study aims to discover the pattern in the different notions of politicians. It also tends to analyse the effect of populism to democracy in their political reality. Eight politicians – two from the government party, two from right opposition, two from left opposition and two independent politicians – were asked by semi-structured interviews in the summer of 2017. Based on our thematic analysis, populism is defined as a simplifying, people-centrist communication form for mobilization. It is also seen as a long-term phenomenon that will help the government coalition to stay in power Conceptualizing the connection between democracy and populism, a cleavage of right- and left-wing party members were identified with both positive and negative narrative. |
