Tartalmi kivonat:Local icons and iconostases in the historical bishopric of Munkács have been special representations of liturgical practice and the theology of icons as the auxiliary of such practice since as early as the 15th and 16th centuries. The holy days and ceremonies of the liturgical year have represented grand moments in the flow of every day life for centuries, not just for the local monasteries, but also for village congregations. The iconostases of the Carpathian region depict the teachings of the Church and the poetic, explanatory content of liturgical texts in a visual language based on area-specific, established iconographic program. The iconostasis of Sátoraljaújhely is further distinguished in this regard by its famous icon painters, the Spalinszky brothers, as identified by the initials on the artwork. The iconostases of the 18th century, with their traditional structures, used modem techniques to redefine and yet exemplify the uniform validity of the pictorial order perfected in the Middle Ages. Within an iconostasis, the first icons and the doors are representations of invitation and intercession. The second tier allows the congregation to relate to the chronology of the history of salvation by representing the feasts that frame their lives. The representations of the upper tier expand the teachings through the disciples and other characters from the Old Testament. The horizontal tiers are also connected by a pronounced vertical axis that invites us to follow the Kronos and, at the same time, enter the sacramental, liturgical time of the Kairos.
