Tartalmi kivonat:Folkloristic and anthropological studies presenting a festival and the way of celebration are usually concerned with the festivals of religious communities. Religion and celebration are in a way closely connected. It is an interesting question theoretically as well, how the larger and smaller irreligious groups celebrate. In my study, I examine the celebrations of a smaller community (Murony, Békés County, Eastern Hungary). I approach them from the respect, how the irreligious individuals and families celebrate their baptisms and weddings. During the socialist era, the atheist regime endeavoured to oppress church ceremonies and to substitute them with secular rites. As a result, great irreligiousness ensued. After the 1990 change of political regime, the secularized rites remained. In Murony, the name-giving ceremony substituting/replacing baptism lives on. In connection with weddings, however, there has been a growing demand for church ceremonies because of their richness in symbols and colourful externals. One lesson to draw is that secular and church ceremonies coexist in our time. The other lesson is that the change of political regime was not followed by an immediate increase in the demand for church ceremonies. Prospectively, this duality concerning the rites will remain for a long time.
