Tartalmi kivonat:Foreign nationals are a growing and over-representing population in many European prison systems, which also means, that the profile of the prison population has changed in many jurisdictions. The foreigners are over-represented because of disadvantages they face during the criminal justice process, such as increased targeting by police, language barriers, lack of access to legal aid, discriminatory sentencing, as well as punitive approaches to immigration-related offences. In prison setting they have to face with isolation, language barriers, limited or no family contact and also discrimination, or often get a negative answer on application for temporary release. Because foreign national prisoners represent a range of new challenges a lot of European states focus on return schemes or in many cases foreign prisoners have a deportation order added to their prison sentence by the court.
