Tartalmi kivonat:The most complex manifestations of Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary’s cult are present in the celebrations connected to her person. The customs related to the most important celebrations (congratulations to her birth- and nameday, the commemoration of her death) that have become rooted over the years, as well as their repeated rites have resulted in celebrations with similar structure, in which all the denominations have played an important role: services and those religious motifs that can be attached to Elisabeth in the ‘hagiography’ of her cult have become popular elements in the narrative of the cult. Efforts to find parallels that can strengthen the sacrality have been also among the most important features of the celebrations. The most emphasized transcendental elements range from different motifs of martyrdom to biblical references and to the intention of representing the female ideal. All this has evolved intertwiningly with the organic development during which the most important (ceremonial) rites of the national religions have partly arisen from the traditional religious celebrations themselves, which is clearly present in the terminology used in ceremonial texts, drawing on well-known elements of the Bible and the liturgy.
