Tartalmi kivonat:Gathering wild plants and other products of forest and field is still widely practised among Hungarians living in Moldavia. Medicinal plants are the most commonly collected; they are known and used in almost all Csángo families. The four pillars of the action of medicinal plants can be summed up as follows: (1) the plant’s natural healing action and knowledge of it; (2) the disinfectant action of boiling the water used for infusions which means that the sick person does not drink more or less infected well water;(3) washing in warmed water in the case of baths, or the actual effect of bathing, rubbing, massaging; (4) the belief in the healing power that is reinforced with various magical actions, such as blessing, and the procedures observed in gathering the plants: gathering in silence, at the full moon or the new moon, making infusions from seven or nine different kinds of plants, etc. The traditional knowledge of the Moldavian Csángós also includes a few plants to which they attribute special power. These are used not in everyday practice but for the treatment of mental illness and psychological problems. Care is taken to gain the goodwill of the supernatural forces right from the time they are gath-ered and often anthropomorphic features strengthen their action. An air of mys-tery is added by the names such plants are given and great emphasis is placed on performing various magical acts to strengthen the natural power of the plant.
