Tartalmi kivonat: | The history of Hungarian literature is inseparable from the history of translation, and translation has been accompanied by studied contemplation. In 19th century Hungarian literary and scientific life, questions of translation theory and practice became more and more emphasised, and quite often were dealt with in institutional, „official” settings, for example lectures and opening speeches at the meetings of the Kisfaludy Society, and even in academic inaugural addresses. Károly Szász’s essay is such an inaugural, which he wrote on the occasion of his being selected a's associate of The Hungarian Academy of Sciences, in 1859. His work is the most interesting, overall and „theoretical”, although it is an unjustly forgotten work, on the history of translation, from the second half of the 19th century. |
