Tartalmi kivonat:The origins of the Székely script (a runiform kind of writing, used originally in Transylvania) is rather vague. Its first known monument dates back to the 13th century, and since it is obvious that the roots of this writing system had been created much earlier, there is a large gap in its history. Many researchers agree that the ultimate origins of the Székely script will be found among the yet undeciphered scripts used in the Carpathian Basin during the Avar period, others also hypothesise a close relationship with the Old Western Turkic scripts used in Eastern Europe between the 6th–7th and the 10th–11th centuries. However, the Székely and the East European Turkic alphabets show much less resemblance than the Székely and the Yenisey branch of the Eastern Turkic script. The geographical distance between Inner Asia and the Carpathian Basin would undermine the possibility of a closer relationship between the two, but a theory about the origins of the Turkic scripts, formulated by Dmitrij Vasil’ev may solve this problem.
