Tartalmi kivonat:In my paper I have been dealing with the interests and politics regarding the Middle East, of one of the most decisive great powers of the 20th century, the leader of an empire: Great Britain. My paper is concerned with the era between the end of the First World War and the Peace Treaty of Lausanne (1918–1923) which was a quite crucial time for the region. I was doing a research on what strategic and economic interests did Britain have in the region; how did London manage to enforce its interests and what were the long term effects of these on the Middle East. In my essay I put emphasis on the question of the Straits and Constantinople, as well as the problem of the British mandates, Mesopotamia and Palestine. During my research I came to the conclusion that the interests of Great Britain and their enforcement contributed to the evolution and further development of several conflicts of the Middle East that still exist in the 21st century.
