Summary:The accurate knowledge of the customers is an essential part for good management in the public service sector, as well. However, water service market is one of the priority areas because water is a scarce resource as the world’s population keeps growing, while the amount of fresh water available is dropping day by day. The question, whether the consumption of this scarce resource is done consciously, has gained crucial importance among the leaders of water suppliers. My objective was to find an answer to what extent the awareness of concerning water use is present in the residential sector. My research was based on a pattern observed in the households of the city of Szeged. In a primary research I observed the factors affecting per capita water consumption, and mapped out the dimensions characterizing awareness, then identified separate consumer groups based on the extent of conscious behavior. Although I have come to the conclusion that the desired attitude towards water consumption would be the spread of conscious consumption, and it has not completely taken place among Szeged consumers, yet.
