Tartalmi kivonat:This study deals with the worldview, military activity and foreign policy of Lohamey Herut Yisrael (LEHI), one of the right-wing pre-state Zionist militias between 1940 and 1948. The study is based on foreign archival material in order to present the worldview of Lehi founder Avraham (Yair) Stern, his ideology and activities, and compares it with those of his successors after his 1942 murder. The study aims to answer some debated aspects of LEHI’s activities, such as their search for an alliance with the Axis powers, their policy towards the Arabs and their later pro-Soviet stance. This study lists for the first time the currently known LEHI members of Hungarian–Jewish ancestry.
