Tartalmi kivonat:In Waves of Armours, In the Whirlwind of the Flames of Molotov Cocktails: The Fights of Budapest in 1956 in the Light of Armours: The main purpose of my study is to present a less discussed and analysed, however crucial facet of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, namely armoured warfare and the ways of anti-tank defence. Unfortunately, during the 20th century Budapest was a noteworthy place for military history to happen several times. From this aspect the autumn of 1956 was particularly significant, since the first serious event inside the Eastern Bloc that disrupted the unity of the satellite state network of the Soviet Union and endangered its geopolitical position in Eastern Europe took place. From a military perspective the guerrilla warfare of Budapest in 1956 brought such strategical and tactical errors to the surface for the Soviet high command which caused serious losses during the revolution for the largest and one of the most advanced armed forces of the word at that time. In my paper I present the plans of the Soviet Special Corps stationed in Hungary and the People's Army of Hungary to avert a potential "counterrevolution", then I describe the urban combat and armoured tactics used by the Soviets in the initial period of the revolution. Furthermore, I briefly discuss the tactics of the revolutionaries of Budapest, the measures they applied against armoured troops and the Soviet schemes implemented during Operation Whirlwind launched on the 4th of November.
