Tartalmi kivonat:The Italian troops – who outnumbered the Austro–Hungarian Army stationed at the Doberdo Plateau – carried out a gas attack on 29th June, in 1916, neglecting the interational treaties. Following the chemical assault the break through was the duty of the Hungarian troops. The infantry attack after blowing out the gas was preceded by a well planned training of the soldiers. Meanwhhile a thorough technical preparation was also in progress. The military operation started on 29, June, in 1916. When the gas was blown out, the hand-to-hand fight lasted for a whole day and finally the attackers withdrew to their original position. Throughout the day the Italian troops suffered great losses. The result of this attack was that an ultimate Italian offensive was prevented and the date of the crutial, 6th Isonzo fight was postponed for a few weeks.
