Tartalmi kivonat:The aim of this paper is twofold: 1. to give a survey of the semantics of Hungarian nouns and determiners in a model-theoretic framework; 2. to propose first-order denotations for generalized quantifiers (NPs) by splitting their usual secondorder definitions into two parts. The first task is completed through the second one, which is in turn performed by using models with structured domains. The second-order definitions of generalized quantifiers are replaced by first-order ones with two components: one defines the range of reference, while the other specifies a relation between the elements of the given reference domain. The proposed approach may give rise to new considerations regarding such longstanding semantic observations as the uniqueness condition on the interpretation of definite nounphrases. These considerations might also influence the overall characterization of generalized quantifiers. The solutions offered here are compared systematically to former proposals which have used structured domains for modelling the denotation of noun phrases. The presentation and the structure of the paper are such that the main line of reasoning is also accessible to readers who are not familiar with the formal details and recent results of formal semantics.
