Tartalmi kivonat: | The article offers an outline of the typology of elliptical constructions in Hungarian sentences, examining the linguistic features that make ellipsis possible in a given context. The first part of the study deals with elliptical constructions themselves; pointing out the grammatical and/or semantic features within the sentence, referring to the omitted word. These features very often define the grammatical quality of the missing element too. The second part is about the contextual correlations of ellipsis.Elliptical sentences function in the text similarly to non-elliptical ones, because the missing elements become semantically meaningful and clear with the help of the context. The paper traces back the words referring to the omitted elements; defining their, quality and their distance form the elliptical constructions. The author suggests, that it is impossible to avoid elliptical sentences when speaking or writing: the rules of text-construction very often preclude the possibility of using constructionally complete sentences. Thus the ellipsis can be regarded as one of the most important means of text-coherence. |
