| Tartalmi kivonat: | The paper examines one section of the 485 piece World War I correspondence by the socialist lawyer Dr. Antal Czibula (1879—1953) of Szeged: the letters and postcards sent by Czibula from the Italian Front. Czibula joined the Isonzó Front on October 25, 1915, and reached the Tolmein bridge-head on July 27,1916. A yearning for peace weaves through all of his correspondence like a red thread. In his letters he describes the difficult conditions of the battlefield, the suffering of the soldiers, the daily routine of the trenches, and the activities of the battle. He gives an account of his regiment's involvement in the 6th and 11th Isonzó battles, which might be of interest even to the military historian. His letters reflect the decline of the fighting spirit of the army after the first half of 1916. The Russian revolution of February 1917 attracts his attention, as he is expecting „yet greater events". Czibula spent 24 months at the frontline, and was discharged as a lieutenant in November 1918. Besides examining the most important military and political reference points of Czibula's letters, the paper touches upon the main battlefield events of the Isonzó Front, and the reasons of the failure of the Central Powers, as well as gives a numeral account of the losses of Hungary in the war. |
