| Tartalmi kivonat: | In the insurrection of István Bocskai (1604–1606) against Emperor Rudolph, Transylvania played a minor role. Bocskai first invaded the northern parts of the Hungarian Kingdom as an Ottoman ally during the Fifteen Years War (1593–1606) fought against the Habsburg Empire. Transylvania – the province which was an Ottoman vassal before the war, but from 1603 it was controlled by a Habsburg governor – was also annexed to the territories ruled by him. Bocskai slowly acquired the support of the Transylvanian „nations” (Hungarians, Seklers, Saxons) and some Hungarian aristocrats of Transylvanian origin. This paper analyses the gradual increase of his influence and the role of Transylvanian diets in this process. Bocskai was elected as prince of Transylvania by two nations (Hungarians, Seklers) in February 1605 on the diet of Nyárádszereda. Later the assembly held at Kelementelke secured his position in May 1605. By gaining the support of the Saxons as well, Bocskai was inaugurated as prince on the diet of Medgyes in September 1605. The last diet during the short Transylvanian rule of Bocskai was held at Kolozsvár in April 1606 where the articles of a future peace agreement concerning Transylvania with the Habsburg ruler were accepted. These diets legalized the rule of Bocskai in Transylvania in the province he obtained by force and diplomacy. |
