| Tartalmi kivonat: | The thesis examines the literary world of Tennessee Williams, who is one of the greatest poet-dramatist to have appeared on the American scene since Eugene ° 'Neill. The thesis takes a closer look at his autobiography in relation with his plays and examines especially his first successful drama, The Glass Menagerie. Analyzing this piece of work will give us a clear picture of the writer himself and about his early years spent with his family. Taking into consideration the autobiographical similarities between Williams' family and the family in the play, we can say that there is a great parallel. This is a play of reality and illusions. All the characters have problems with their everyday lives and they have several unsuccessful attempts to escape from their present situations. The thesis is going to analyze on the one hand the historical background and the general features of the drama, and on the other hand, it will give a close analysis of the characters in a detailed way. The thesis concludes that after examining the play we can see, that there is a -strong relationship between Tennessee Williams' family and the family described in the drama. |
