Tartalmi kivonat:This thesis deals with the critical evaluation of a course book called Chatterbox/Strange 1990/. Through eight chapters it examines several fields of language teaching, learning concerning the Pupil’s Book, Activity Book, Teacher’s Book and a cassette. The central point ofit is whether it is a suitable book for developing the four main language skills or not, on the basis of the 9-12-year-old pupils’ personal characteristics. Therefore, the main part consists of some lists of activities, games and lets us take a look into the structure ofthe books. In the background of this detailed analysis there are interviews and questionnaires including teachers’ and pupils’ opinions, experiences. It shows the importance of cooperation among the teachers, and between the teachers and children in choosing the most appropriate course book. I hope that I can make the reader sure ofthat it is a suitable book altogether with its insufficiencies for our 9-12-year-old pupils.
