Tartalmi kivonat:The teaching of writing skills has gained more importance in the language lessons recently. Although different kinds of approaches and activities have been developed to help the improvement of students' writing skills, it seems that writing still does not come easily. In this thesis I will provide information about the nature of writing. I will demonstrate those approaches which language teachers try to improve their learners' writing skills with. I will also point to some problem areas in the teaching of writing which are in connection with teachers' attitudes towards writing and the writing activities they employ in their lessons. I will state on the basis of the classroom research that teachers tend to apply only the writing activities of the course books which often paralyse students' creativity and enthusiasm.
