This paper makes an attempt to clear the meaning of „mimesis" this problem being among the central ones of the work. Berzsenyi's usage of the term is only seemingly Aristotelian. He stands firmly on the ground of 18th century Classicism but his views are coloured by Platonism and by Romantic German thought as well. On account of his highly individual word-usage he becomes shaotic and even unintelligible sometimes. Nevertheless, it can be detected that his most important categories are „beauty" and „love", identified in their turn with nature, with poetry, with the poetic human soul and — in the utmost — with creation. At this point Berzsenyi gets very near the Romantic view of poetry working as natura naturans but never reaches it. In the last analysis he turns back to the conventional thought of a Wellbalanced idyllic world which does not need the power of poetry to create harmony because harmony does exist in it. Berzsenyi knew only too well how illusory, deceptive and false this notion was still in his theoretical work he could not thoroughly free himself of it.
