This is no different in Hungary: like other European states, from the very beginning many people here were executed on the scaffold, on the gallows, and the variety of medieval methods of execution could be listed at length. In my study, I will try to outline the domestic practice of this form of punishment during the Dualism era, based on reports and other articles in the contemporary press, concentrating on South Hungary. I will present crimes committed between 1867 and 1914, where the death penalty was not only imposed on the perpetrators, but also carried out on them.
