Tartalmi kivonat:This study deals with Catalan language policy, its evolution and development over the years. Despite years of severe repression, Catalan has not ceased to exist. Language policy has many unexploited areas and is full of topicalities. The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive picture of Catalan education policy, the topicality of which lies in the recent Spanish Supreme Court ruling on the so-called language immersion policy, which has led to an ongoing political debate. The controversial court decision that disrupts the current educational model, raises several issues on which the study focuses. The issue of Catalan language immersion has also reached the European Parliament, where four experts discussed the issue. In the debate on language immersion, language has become a tool of political struggle. The aim of education policy has always been to balance what is unbalanced in society. Language immersion should be flexible enough to adapt to the linguistic needs of students, depending on whether their school is located in a predominantly Spanish-speaking area.
