| Tartalmi kivonat: | This paper aims to explore the relationship of social capital and religion. Many representatives of contemporary social sciences prefer the social capital theory as a general theory and recognize that the religious sphere is a most important dimension of it. Leading scholars known for popularizing the theory of social capital — almost without exception — emphasize the importance of religious belonging, religious practice and religiosity in the creation of social capital. This writing presents and analyses the most important theoretical approaches and research results in the field of social capital and religion in the United States. It also emphasizes the relevancy of the theory in a Hungarian setting, based on the works and researches of Hungarian scholars of the field. The comparison and analysis of examples from the United States and Hungary designates new ways for research. |
