<subfield code="a">Combating the financing of terrorism (CFT) is a crucial part of fighting against international terrorism. Monitoring and filtering transactions and applying financial restrictive measures against the funds and economic resources bélonging to individuals and entities listed by the UN became one of the most significant aspects of the non-criminal side of CFT after 9/11. My essay focus on the European Union's financial restrictive measures, which provides the EU member states with a comprehensive implementation of the UN Security Council Resolutions (UNSCRs). The UN member states creating efficient system for having freezing methods in order to comply with the provisions laid down by the UNSCRs. This international obligation is transformed into the EU member states within the framework of EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, which contributes to creating a single approach for EU member states in this respect. The EU mechanism of restrictive measures goes further than non-EU member states with the unified implementation of UNSCR 1373(2001). Due to this measure the EU functions as a single jurisdiction regarding the CFT, which shows a new stage of the integration within the Common Foreign and Security Policy. My essay also gives a brief introduction into the domestic side of international financial restrictive measures. The Hungarian legislation primarily relies on the EU implementation of the UNSCRs by stressing the direct applicability of the certain EC regulations in this field. In addition several other — not immensely robust — domestic provisions have relevance concerning international financial restrictive measures, e.g. the criminal liability of the nonapplication of the EC regulations and the possibility of introducing a single list for applying restrictive measures against individuals and entities.</subfield>
