From the loss of World War II to the fall of communism, Hungary was subordinated to the security needs of the Soviet Union, that is why the hungarian military intelligence tasks were determined by NATO's strategic opposition. A major part of the military intelligence work was the submission of reports to the political and military leadership after the proper analysis and evaluation of the data obtained. The operative textbook I was researching was made by military intelligence in 1966 to contribute to the enhancement of intelligence in Italy. These documents were strictly for internal use only for operatives, as knowledge of what was contained therein was indispensable for performing intelligence tasks. The operational textbook contained a summary of the Italian Republic's political and administrative system, its secret services and other law enforcement agencies, covered all areas of the State's operation and had to provide reliable, credible and up-to-date information for the country's intelligence activities. I am convinced that these documents provide a better insight into the factors that help or hinder intelligence in Italy, and that further research will give us a better understanding of military intelligence activities during the Cold War.
