Tartalmi kivonat:This publication has two parts. The introduction presents and examines the income register. The author establishes several facts considering the estate of Gyula and its society. The introduction is followed by the Hungarian translation of the original Latin source with notes. The large estate of Gyula consisted of 47 villages and domains, as well as 3 towns and market towns (Gyula, Békéscsaba, and Simánd) at that time. The differentiation of the population in the estate is the following: there are two groups of villains of more than one thousand in number. Besides those settled, the number of those moving freely was one third. Next to the villains there are the cotters who worked on the villains' farms. The lowest stratum were the farmhands or servants. The industrial stratum is not among the tax payers but among the villains and cotters. The register presents in details the taxes and services given to the lord by different social strata. It makes clear that the tenants of the towns and villages of the estate fulfilled their duties by giving rents in money, crops and labour. Besides this, the income of the estate came from fines customs and dues paid for using certain parts of the allopdium (water, moor, woods). The benefit coming from the trade of big animals like horses and cows was an important income. The register contains information about the fact that the population of the estate paid taxes for the lord only for agricultural activities and the crops of the fields.
