Tartalmi kivonat:The right to freedom, the individual liberty is one of the most fundamental human rights and deprivation of this right has harsh and serious consequences on the individuals. Still today imprisonment is considered to be the main punishment to serious violations of social norms and rules. The study aims to analyse the regulations on imprisonment in comparative law context. The first part of the study reviews the central position and the main features of the imprisonment as the most severe sanction. The second part introduces the main types of imprisonment according duration, namely the fix-term and life imprisonment (life sentences), and also the short-term and long-term imprisonment. The third part outlines the different types of conditional release (discretionary, mandatory and mixed release systems) as one of the major early release form of sentenced prisoners.
