The inhabitants ofFelsőváros separated from the other parts of Székesfehérvár in several fields of folk culture (eg. folk customs, costumes, religious life). György Horváth who was not only the leader of pilgrimages but also of other religious, pious societies, played an important role in the organization and animation of the religious folk life of Felsőváros. He was elected churchwarden at his early youth to conduct the maintenence works around the church. He was also the dean ofJózsef Society (József Társulat) which functioned as an organiser of funerals. Because of his deep devotion and hissonorous voice he lead the prayers, adorations and litanies at community services. As an expression of his reverence to the Virgin Mary he was the member of the local Rosary Society. Being the leader of pilgrimages he regularly organised and guided the processions of the parish for 29 years to Jásd, Csatka, Andocs, Bodajk and to Celldömölk also called Hungarian Mariazell. Apart from arranging and guiding pilgrimages he also supervised their discipline. Besides the animation of communitarian religious life György Horváth was a devoted pious man in his private life as well. He has had the reputation of holy person among those who knew him. | |
