This source is a contemporary Catholic ecclesiastic manuscript from Izsák.In 1914, the populace of the village welcomed the outbreak of the war and the general mobilization. However, as men were absent from agricultural production next year, the resulting loss of income brought social tensions to the surface and posed serious issues for local authorities. By 1917, the long war and the great human, material and emotional losses that followed caused a general discontent in the public of Izsák, as well as everywhere in the country. A manifestation of this was that the people of Izsák practically stormed the village hall in May 1917 and smashed in its windows, just as the windows of the notary’s home. | |
