Tartalmi kivonat:Values are considered the most essential elements of cultures: the traditions of communities form the system of moral, economic, aesthetic, etc. values, basically determining at the same time confining the motifs of individuals as well as their identity. Alfred L. Kroeber, an American anthropologist, emphasizes that cultural values always appear in cultural forms (in unwritten and written laws and rituals) and reflect in social ideals. This value is relative since the various human societies have developed different ideals and cultural values that they have changed throughout history. Numerous models of culture differing from the great civilizations documented by cultural history and cultural anthropology have shown examples of change of cultural values. This study focuses on such an example of value change that ensured the sustainability of the said human society. By this it made the change of cultural values and the frameworks of everyday life possible in such a way that it ensured the long-term sustainability of the environment and the human community as well. This example became known owing to the research work having been conducted by Raymond Firth, and English anthropologist, on Tikopia Island. Today, in the age of crisis phenomena of the unsustainable consumer's society (see the works of Jared Diamond and Gábor Vida), studying and highlighting the moral of a cultural value system ensuring sustainability as an alternative model may provide an extraordinarily important knowledge for us.
