Tartalmi kivonat:Art has always been crutial in the urban fabric. Statues, monuments, fountains, decorated facedes transmitted cultural value to the public, and in the same way they were reflections of the state of a society as well. Despite, by the end of the 1980's art was not fundamentally and intentionally integrated into urban development, which was mainly dominated by hard development components, such as building renovations or purchasing new street furnitures. During the 1990's a new perspective approached which relied more and more on public participation and involvment. The idea of redevelopment of urban public spaces slowly changed by the end of the deacde, where public art and the involvment of the urban audience became crutial. Due to these changes, in the recent years, the definition of public space has been multidisciplinarly debated. The paper aims to sum up the recently used public space definitions and to give connection to public arts. Since the (re)development of the urban tissue, specially public spaces had a high priority in the European Policy various development strategies had been adopted, the paper introduces a best practice via the case study of Barcelona.
