Which direction did Ukraine take after becoming independent? What characterised the Moscow-Kiev relationship? Why was it important for the corrected Russian foreign policy to block the expansion of NATO and the European Union in Eastern-Europe? What were their possibilities and why did they decide to intervene and annex Crimea? How did the foreign policy of the USA after 1991 influence the Russian mentality? This study examines the Eastern Ukrainian crisis which escalated in 2014 on three levels. It talks about the Ukrainian and Russian internal affairs, the main reasons for correction and shifts of directions, and the relations between the two countries. We also need to research why the escalation of the conflict was inevitable. We need to take a look at a third dimension here, which is geopolitical dimensions. Examining the Russian reactions to the American challenges after the fall of the bipolar system and exploring alternatives.
