Description
Summary:The aim of the present study is to demonstrate the challenges the government of Miskolc had to face during the consolidation period following World War II and the Solutions the government was able to present. These challenges originated partly from being at war and partly from the ambitious plans of the city government: Nagy-Miskolc, uniting the city with its neighbouring towns, which were already more or less built intő it, became the second largest city of the country, and also it was the firm decision of mayor Gálffy and the other leading politicians of the city to manage the interests and intentions of Miskolc with due importance. Topics presented in this paper include the functioning of the reorganised local legislature, the administrative changes related to the territorial expansion and changes in the jurisdiction of the local government, the State of the public Utilities of the city, the organising of the public service and also the possibility of the establishment of a university. The aim of the study is not to examine all the related topics at their full depth, rather to outline the most important tendencies, amended by some interesting or highly relevant cases, predominantly from areas that so far had received less attention from the literature.
